Darnay Tripp Biography
Darnay Tripp is an American anchor working for NBC7 San Diego as a Sports anchor and reporter for NBC 7’s weekday evening newscasts and NBC 7 SportsWrap Sundays. He joined the NBC7 news team in Jan 2019, after previously working for KREM 2.
Tripp graduated from Townson University in Baltimore with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Journalism and New Media in 2007. He then began his professional career at KCFW TV as a Sports Anchor. Here, he served as Relay for Life Captain, and Bowl for Kids’ Sake Co-Captain and created the Summer Sweat Series, consisting of weekly features on local athletes’ summertime workouts. He was with the team for two years and a month before moving on to WMAZ TV in 2009 as a sports anchor.
He produced and co-anchored high school football Signing Day coverage, and High School Sports.net Full Court Press segments during basketball season. Prior to working for NBC7 San Diego, he worked at KREM-TV as a Sports Director from March 2012 – October 2018. His duties included managing the overall coverage and strategic direction for KREM 2 sports. Additionally, he has extensive experience in field-anchoring: Super Bowl specials, Spokane Hoopfest coverage, Seahawks playoff coverage, and Gonzaga basketball and Washington State University football seasons.
Some highlights of his coverage have been, serving as emcee for three Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids’ Sake events, and two St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute Tee Off for Team St. Luke’s fundraisers. In 2018, Tripp won an Edward R. Murrow Award for Sports Reporting: ‘Zag Climber Revenge’. During his free time, he enjoys playing bad golf and slightly better pickup basketball.
