Darby Bybee is an American meteorologist working at 40/29 News where he serves as the Chief meteorologist a position he took up in June 2015, and he can be seen at 5, 6, and 10 pm. Bybee joined 40/29 News in November 2012, after previously working at Nexstar Broadcasting Group, Inc. In addition, Darby can also be seen on The Arkansas CW where he broadcasts weather at 9 pm.
Darby has been certified by the American Meteorological Society and prior to joining 40/29 News, he worked at KARK-TV in Little Rock. For the last ten years, he has covered 18 states and logged over 50 thousand miles of storm chasing. He was brought up in the country near Freedom, Indiana where his love and passion for weather grew. In addition, he first interned in Indianapolis at the National Weather Service. In 2003, he joined Ball State University where he graduated in 2008, with a bachelor’s degree in meteorology.
After he had interned at WISH-TV in Indianapolis, he was able to secure his first job at KLKN in Lincoln, Nebraska where he reported for several days a week and forecasted weekend weather. He gained a wealth of experience in weather knowledge inclusive of severe weather coverage while he worked in the central plains for three years. Later in 2011, he worked at KARK-TV in Little Rock where he served as a weekend meteorologist for over a year.
