Dan Ashley Biography
Dan Ashley is an American anchor and reporter working for KGO-TV as a weekday evening anchor at 5, 6, and 11 pm. He joined ABC 7/ KGO-TV in 1995, after previously working for WCBD-TV.
Dan Ashley Career
Ashley has served as a broadcast journalist for over 38 years and during that time, he has reported on a wide variety of issues and events, in the Bay Area, the country, and the world. He has reported interviews with President Obama at the White House, reported from Poland on the “March of the Living” with Bay Area holocaust survivors, and reported from Camp Pendleton Marine Corp basic training in San Diego. In addition, over assignments, Ashley has had to include reporting from Iowa for the state’s caucus for the state primaries and reporting live from South Carolina and New Hampshire.
Dan has also traveled to Florida where he covered the return of Senator John Glenn to space and to Peru where he reported on the El Nino weather phenomenon. Apart from being a broadcast journalist, Ashley is also a devoted philanthropist who spends ample time supporting a number of worthy causes. In addition, he has been to the white house where he wed President Barack Obama in the Diplomatic Reception Room. Furthermore, Dan was the only reporter who remained on air the night Hurricane Hugo hit Charleston, South Carolina.
During his free time, he enjoys being in the music studio writing and recording songs, and stage performing with his Americana Rock. Over the years, Ashley has recieved a number of awards such as two Edward R. Murrow Awards for excellence in journalism, the prestigious DuPont Columbia Award, and many Emmy Awards for Best Newscast and Individual Reporting. In addition, his outstanding work has also been recognized by a number of organizations inclusive of the; Press Club of Atlantic City, Associated Press, and United Press International,
Furthermore, Ashley has also recieved awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Science and the Atlanta and New Jersey chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists. He started his television broadcasting career in Durham, North Carolina where he worked at WTVD, the ABC-owned television station. Later on, he relocated to Charleston, South Carolina where he worked at WCBD-TV as an anchor for the 6 pm and 11 pm newscast and investigative reporter
Dan is an active member of the community and he serves on the boards of directors of a number of organizations such as; The Oakland Symphony, The Contra Costa County Crisis Center, The Commonwealth Club, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), The Bay Area Red Cross, The First Tee, and he is the president of the Bammies Music Foundation. He also serves as an annual host of “Dan Ashley’s Friends of Camp Concord Golf Tournament” which raised money for sending send under-served youngsters to summer camp.
