Damon Matson Biography
Damon Matson is an American meteorologist working at DC News Now where he serves as midday meteorologist alongside co-anchor Mark Hall and evening at 5 pm meteorologist a position he took up in July 2022. He joined DC News Now in May 2020 as a morning meteorologist.
Prior to joining DC News Now, he worked at WBNG in Binghamton, New York where he served as a weekend meteorologist and reporter for two years.In 2019, the New York State Broadcasters Association gave him the Outstanding Weathercast Award. In 2012, he attended PennWest California where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in meteorology in 2016. Later on, he studied at Mississippi State University, and in 2018, he graduated with a master’s degree in broadcast meteorology.
Western Pennsylvania is Matson’s native home and he attended Brockway Area High School where he graduated proudly. He started his career at WTOK in Meridian, Mississippi where she served as a weekend weather anchor for two years. In 2015, he was awarded an NOAA Hollings Scholarship while still in school, and he conducted weather communications research for a summer in New Orleans with the National Weather Service. In addition, he is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. Not long ago, he was granted by the AMS the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal in November 2021. Furthermore, during his spare time, he enjoys traveling to see friends, keeping up with his favorite bands and music, going to the gym, and following his favorite Pittsburgh sports teams.
