Claudia Vargas is an award-winning American reporter working for NBC10 as an investigative reporter on weekdays. She joined the NBC10 news team in April 2020, after previously working for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Claudia graduated from Penn State University with a double major in international studies and broadcast journalism. In April 2020, Claudia began working for Telemundo62 and NBC10. Since then, new legislation and modifications to city policy have resulted from her investigative findings. She has investigated concerns of racial fairness in the recruitment methods of the police department, brought attention to the disparity in the city’s allocation of benefits for deaths on the job, and discovered that certain residents of the subsidized worker housing program were abusing it.
Additionally, she has been a mainstay of the “Race in Philly” special series, covering issues of education, migration, criminal justice reform, and climate change as they relate to Philadelphia’s people of color. Her most extensive effort to date has been the critically acclaimed real crime documentary series “Who Killed Barbara Jean?” The 12-episode series prompted Philadelphia Police to revive the case of a 4-year-old child who had been murdered; it had since gotten cold again. Her work at NBC10 has won three regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and four Mid-Atlantic Emmys.
She spent 10 years as a reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer before joining NBC10 and Telemundo62. Most recently, she was a member of the investigative team. She covered the Philadelphia and Camden City Hall beats while she was employed by the Inquirer. Claudia spent time in Paris working as a freelance reporter for USA Today’s London bureau before coming to the Inquirer. She had previously worked as a reporter for the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, New York. Moreover, Claudia is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, Investigative Reporters, and Editors and served as a governor on the board of the Pen and Pencil Club, one of the nation’s oldest press clubs.
