Coleman received a bachelor’s degree in speech communication from Texas A&M University. She started her career in Anchorage, Alaska, as a reporter for KIMO-TV (ABC), where she covered the evening newscast. She conducted numerous interviews with Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska and a viable candidate for vice president, while she was there.
Coleman worked for the NBC station (KSDK-TV) in St. Louis, Missouri, as an anchor and lead night-beat reporter before joining the network. He was an expert in local reporting. In this capacity, Coleman aggressively covered the events in Ferguson, Missouri, that followed Michael Brown’s death. She was notably among the first reporters to arrive at the scene of the rioting a few days after the unarmed adolescent was shot and killed.
