Chris Wright Biography
Chris Wright is an American meteorologist working for CBS4 as the chief meteorologist and can be seen during the 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. newscasts. He joined CBS4 in November 2014, after previously working for WCPO-TV.
While Wright worked for WTHR-TV, he served as the primary meteorologist for the 5, 6, and 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts for 14 years. As he worked in Indianapolis, he was honored with many awards and in June 2012, he was inducted into the Silver Circle of the Lower Great Lakes Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). The Silver Circle Award is reserved for an elite group of professionals who have made a significant contribution to television for 25 years or more. In addition, Chris is the first and only African-American in the Indianapolis market to receive this honor.
In 1994, Wright was named National Weather Association Broadcaster of the Year. The Lower Great Lakes Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awarded Chris eleven Emmy awards. In 2005, Wright became the first African American in the nation to be designated by the American Meteorological Society their Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM). Furthermore, he also holds the National Weather Association Seal of Approval. Chris won a Best Weather Operation Award from the Indiana Associated Press in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013.
He started his career in Memphis at WMC-TV where he served as a weather assistant. Later in 1987, Wright joined WBRC-TV in Birmingham where he served as the morning meteorologist, and a year later, he relocated to Cincinnati where he worked for WLWT-TV. Furthermore, he made his Central Indiana television debut as part of the original FOX-59 news team on WXIN-TV in 1991. In 1995 he shifted to Sacramento, California where he worked for KOVR-TV and later returned to Indianapolis in 1996. During Chris’ leisure time, he enjoys writing as he is an accomplished author who has written 10 mysteries and two children’s books.
