Chris Welch Biography
Chris Welch is an American anchor and reporter working for FOX 5 as the anchor of “The Noon” and a general assignment reporter a position he took up in July 2020. He joined the FOX 5 news team in September 2019, as a freelance reporter.
While working at FOX 5, Chris covers everything from politics, breaking news, and the trendiest pancake joint in town. He began his journalism career at KTIV in Sioux City, Iowa as a result of a high school internship, and ever since he has traveled around the globe. Welch attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he studied broadcast journalism and political science and graduated in 2007.
After having graduated from University, he joined CNN as a producer in Lowa and in that position, he covered the first-in-the-nation 2008 presidential caucuses. He was assigned to travel full-time with the presidential hopeful’s campaign the then-Senator Barack Obama who had left the Hawkeye State on top of the field of democratic candidates. In addition, Chris has served as a producer and reporter at CNN in both New York and Minneapolis. While working for CNN, He covered stories ranging from the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic which included live reporting from the North Atlantic Ocean., an Amish beard-cutting cult in Ohio.
Not long ago, Welch served as a national correspondent for E.W. Scripps based in Denver. As he worked for E.W., his work could be seen by many local markets. In addition, he also covered a wide range of stories at Scripps such as types of natural and man-made disasters and migrants seeking asylum at both of the U.S. borders. Furthermore, he is an Emmy award-winner and he was also part of CNN’s Peabody Award-winning coverage of the 2008 presidential election.
