Chris Shaffer Biography
Chris Shaffer is an American Emmy award-winning meteorologist working at WCCO-TV as the chief meteorologist seen on the evening newscast. He joined the WCCO-TV weather team in 2006.
Shaffer was brought up in Stillwater, Minnesota and he attended the University of Utah in Salt Lake City where he graduated with degrees in Meteorology and Mass Communications. He is an Emmy award-winning meteorologist and a member of the American Meteorological Society. In addition, Chris was awarded the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation.
Furthermore, Chris has served as a meteorologist on other television stations such as WFTC/UPN 29 and KMSP FOX9. He has also worked on the radio; K102 (as Jack Wilde and himself) or KTLK, BOB100 (as Blaze Bodean), KOOL108, Cities 97, and 104.1 The Point (as Cheeks). In addition, Shaffer gained interest in weather after his great uncle Wilbur was struck and killed by lightning in 1952 while farming in southern Minnesota.
Shaffer’s family vehicle was once chased by a tornado near Maplewood, Minn, and another one on a December as they drove to his grandparent’s house. Together with his wife, they have family members who are distributed all around the Twin Cities including; St. Cloud, Pipestone, Sartell, Willmar, and Blooming Prairie.
