Chris Potter Biography

Chris Potter is a Canadian meteorologist working for CP24 as an afternoon and evening anchor and reporter. He joined the CP24 news team in 2008, after previously working for CityTV.

Chris Potter Career

Potter, who was born and raised in Halifax, New Brunswick, holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Dalhousie University, where he majored in physics and earned a diploma in meteorology. He joined CP24 in 2008 and can be viewed every weekday in the late afternoon and evening, providing viewers with all of their weather-related facts.

Some of the most notable recent weather occurrences in the GTA that Potter has covered include the August 2009 tornado outbreak and the December 2013 ice storm. The harsh winters of 2014–15 and 2007–08 have also been documented by Potter. In Canada and the Greater Toronto Area, Potter has forecasted weather for 12 years. His first position was as a briefing and forecasting meteorologist with The Weather Network, which he held until joining CP24. Prior to transferring to CP24, he started his broadcast career in 2007 at CityTV.

Two major weather occurrences that affected Nova Scotia during his meteorology studies solidified his love for weather and his career choice. Potter spent two days stuck at the Halifax International Airport during the “White Juan” blizzard that occurred in February 2004. The entire city was closed and a foot of snow buried everything. Only a few months prior, Hurricane Juan caused his family’s home to lose power for a whole week and caused powerful winds to topple trees.

To prevent the meat in the freezer from going bad, extreme steps were taken while the electricity was out. This made it possible for “meatpalooza” to start when he cooked for the entire neighborhood. During his spare time, Potter enjoys hiking, camping, skiing, and playing golf with his crazy border collie.
