Chris Maathuis Biography
Chris Maathuis is an American Emmy award-winning sports director who is working at KLAS-TV where he serves as the sports anchor/reporter and director in addition, he joined KLAS-TV in February 1997. He also serves as the host of the award-winning UNLV Game Time basketball and football coaches show.
From 1975 to 1977, Maathuis studied at Granite High School, Salt Lake City and after he graduated, he joined the University of Utah where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast journalism in 1984. Later on, he started his broadcasting career in Arkansas at SEE radio, where he served as the news and sports director and provided play-by-play for Harding University. In April 1992, he joined the KIFI news team in Idaho Falls where he served as a sports director. While he was at KIFI-TV, he received awards for the state’s best local sports coverage. Later in September 1994, he joined the WBNG-TV in Binghamton, New York where he served as a sports director.
In addition, while he worked at WBNG, he covered the Mets, Jets, Giants, Syracuse, and Penn State, and when he moved to Las Vegas in 1997 and joined KLAS-TV where he leads the sports department. Over the years, his coverage of high school sports includes; Mixed Martial Arts, Boxing, and UNLV.
