Chris Jansing Biography

Chris Jansing is an American Emmy-Award Winning anchor working for MSNBC as an anchor for the Chris Jansing Reports on weekdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET. She joined the MSNBC news team in June 1998, after previously working for WNYT.

Originally pursuing a major in political science, Jansing shifted her academic focus to broadcast journalism after gaining experience at the college radio station. In 1978, she successfully completed her studies and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Otterbein College. After completing college, she began her career as an intern at a cable station in Columbus, Ohio, and later worked briefly at radio station WIPS (AM) in Ticonderoga, New York. She then moved on to become a general assignment reporter at WNYT television in Albany, New York. During her tenure at WNYT, she progressed from a weekend anchor to a weekly co-anchor, ultimately spending 17 years with the station. She earned a New York Emmy Award in 1997 for her coverage of the Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta. In June 1998, she joined NBC News, adopting the professional surname Jansing instead of her maiden name Kapostasy.

Over the years, she anchored and reported for MSNBC, and served as a substitute anchor for The Today Show, and the Sunday edition of NBC Nightly News. In 2008, she relocated to Los Angeles, working as a field reporter for two years before returning as an anchor in 2010. She anchored the 10 am hour on MSNBC weekdays on Jansing and Company until June 13, 2014, when she became NBC’s Senior White House Correspondent. On June 1, 2017, she assumed the role of senior national correspondent for MSNBC. In this position, she anchored breaking news coverage alongside Brian Williams and provided reporting from the White House and Capitol Hill. On May 6, 2022, it was announced that she would take over the slot with her hour of MSNBC Reports following the move of MTP Daily to NBC News NOW. Her show expanded to two hours on February 13, 2023.

Additionally, she has received significant recognition for her journalistic contributions, including an Emmy Award for her coverage of the 1996 Olympic Park bombing at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. In addition to this accolade, she holds a second Emmy Award for her outstanding work. Her impactful reporting on hunger in New York State earned her the esteemed “Best Person” award from the New York State Broadcasters Association. Furthermore, in June 2016, she was honored with induction into the New York State Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame, acknowledging her outstanding achievements in the field of broadcasting.
