Chad Myers Biography
Chad Myers is an American anchor and reporter working for CNN as a weather correspondent. He joined the CNN news team in October 1999, after previously working for WXYZ-TV.
Chad Myers Career
Myers moved up at WXYZ-TV in Detroit and became a weather anchor for CNN in October 1999. He has won Peabody Awards for his work covering the Gulf War and for scientifically explaining the BP oil spill and its following containment in the Gulf of Mexico. He also wrote about the storm that hit Japan in 2011 and the nuclear accidents at Fukushima Daiichi. People made fun of him on The Late Show with David Letterman after he climbed into a fake escape capsule for Chilean miners. After they showed him getting into the mock-up, the show’s makers shot him into the sun.
In 2005, while reporting on Hurricane Katrina, Myers got into a fight with reporter Carol Costello because she kept cutting him off during a show. He yelled, “Let me talk, Carol!” when she called him by name. He was trying to get Myers to explain some of the more technical words he used in his report. An interview Myers gave on the air in 2010 said that climatologists were only saying the climate is changing because “they worked for the government” and their jobs were at risk.
Bill Nye attacked CNN in August 2016 for having a “climate change denier meteorologist.” However, Myers wrote that he was no longer a skeptic after the atmosphere passed 400 parts per million of carbon dioxide in 2013. He had changed his mind about the science behind climate change. “I concluded that my original theory of ‘it could be something else’ wasn’t likely the case,” said Myers. Myers knew that his strength and love was being able to explain hard ideas in a way that was clear and made sense. Before he joined CNN, he made a name for himself in radio meteorology by calling the weather in Detroit, Columbus, Ohio, Oklahoma City, Richmond, Virginia, and Lincoln, Nebraska.
Some funny news segments on HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver talked about Myers. One part was called “CNN Weatherman Chad Myers Hates His Job, His Life, and Everyone Around Him.” The segment was made up of clips of Myers looking angry, disgusted, or otherwise upset while she was reporting for CNN. It aired on February 22, 2015.
