Carolyn Johnson is an American Emmy award-winning anchor and reporter who is currently working at KNBC. She serves as the 4 pm and the 6 pm co-anchor at the station.
Carolyn Johnson Career
She has served as a journalist for more than twenty years and she has worked both in front and behind the camera. Together with Michael Brownlee, they anchored news from Washington D.C. in the days leading up to the presidential inauguration in 2017. In addition, she also reports on health and science, and one of her most memorable assignments was in 2011 when she traveled to West Africa’s Sierra Leone to cover maternal and child health issues.
Furthermore, she also contributed to an NBC4 Investigative Team story about the nationwide opioid epidemic in 2017. For her outstanding work as a journalist, she has received a number of awards over the years including, chronicling what happened before and after the riots of 1965, and a 2015 Emmy for her work on the NBC4 special “50 Watts.”
In addition, she also co-anchored the coverage of the Bernardino terrorist attack, which also won a 2015 LA Emmy. she has also received an Emmy award for r Best Evening Newscast, the Eugene Block Journalism Award for Outstanding Coverage of San Francisco Human Rights Issues, and multiple Golden Mikes.
In addition to joining NBC4, she has previously worked at KGO-TV/ ABC7 where she served as an anchor and reporter for a period of sixteen years in San Francisco. Furthermore, she also worked for KSBY in San Luis Obispo where she served as an anchor and reporter.
Her career in journalism started at Stanford University’s campus radio station that led her to local television station internships in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Additionally, she attended Stanford University where she graduated with honors and holds B.A. degrees in psychology and communication.
