Carlos Granda Biography
Carlos Granda is an American reporter working for ABC 7 as a general assignment reporter and gives special reports on “What’s Bugging You.” He joined ABC 7 in April 1998, after previously working for KCBS-TV.
Granda attended the University of South Florida where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and broadcast journalism in 1984. He then started his broadcasting career in Fort Myers, Florida where he worked at WINK as an associate producer writing scripts and later became a full-time reporter. Carlos then secured a job at WLTV in Miami in 1985, as a reporter and fill-in anchor for two years.
In addition, while he was at the station, he traveled extensively while covering; the crash of a Delta plane in Dallas, the Statue of Liberty Centennial in New York, and the late Queen Elizabeth’s visit to the Bahamas. He relocated to Miami in 1987, to work for WPLG as a reporter and while he was there, he covered Central American issues. Furthermore, Granda visited Cuba for a series on the Guantanamo Naval base, and he went to Panama during General Manuel Noriega’s overthrow.
In 1990, he relocated to New York and joined WABC as a fill-in-anchor for the Eyewitness News This Morning. During the World Trade Center bombing, Carlos was the first reporter on the scene and on air. In addition, he did cover Hurricane Andrew as it hit New Orleans and Miami. Later in 1993, Granda secured a job at WNBC in New York as the New Jersey correspondent, and in 1995, he relocated back to Miami where he served as an anchor at WFOR, the CBS affiliate. Over the years, Carlos has received five Emmy nominations and one Emmy award for his series on the homeless known as My Home is the Street.
