Carissa Lawson is an American anchor working for News 12 New Jersey as a morning news anchor. She joined the News 12 New Jersey team in 2010, after previously working for Carissa Lawson Photo.
New York City is Lawson’s native home and she was brought up in Queens. She attended New York University where she graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism. After completing college, she left New York and relocated to North Carolina where she worked for almost 10 years. Later on, she joined the CBS affiliate in Louisville, Kentucky where she worked as an evening news anchor before relocating back to the Northeast. Lawson worked at CBS News as a freelance correspondent in New York City. During that period, she was able to accomplish three major things at a go including; starting a new job, getting her first child, and moving to a different state.
Furthermore, Carissa’s feature reporting has earned her an Associated Press Award. She also worked at the CBS affiliate in Louisville where she was the co-anchor of the newscast that received the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for best newscast. Lawson was part of the CBS affiliate team that was awarded the coveted National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) Service to America Television Award. In addition, Lawson also earned the James Fenimore Cooper Memorial Prize, which is presented annually to the most outstanding undergraduate student of journalism. Carissa was also inducted into the Kappa Tau Alpha National Honor Society in journalism and mass communication.
She is the co-leader of her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop and volunteers for the Parent Teachers Organization at her daughter’s school. During her free time, she enjoys traveling and is a huge advocate for healthy living. She became more conviction about the way of life she tries her best to live out each day after her aunt died as a result of breast cancer.
