Bruce Haertl is an American anchor and reporter working for FOX31 and Channel 2 as a sports anchor and reporter. He joined the FOX31 news team in May 2016, after four years of freelance play-by-play.
Haertl went to Charles Wright Academy and is a proud graduate of Wichita State University. He has been in the sports television business for 33 years. After working as a freelance play-by-play writer for four years, he joined FOX31 and Channel 2 in May 2016. He worked for ESPN, Fox, Cox, the Missouri Valley Conference Network, Sooner Sports TV (University of Oklahoma TV Network), Oral Roberts Basketball Network, and collegiate basketball, baseball, and softball games during that time. Haertl also worked for 10 years on the K-State Football Radio Network and was the television voice of Wichita State baseball and basketball for 15 seasons.
Originally from Wichita State, Haertl, a member of the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame, began his career in television in October 1984 as the Sports Director of KWCH TV in Wichita and would stay in that position for 28 years. In between, he never lost his passion for creating stories. During that time, he covered three World Series, seven College World Series, seven Final Fours, 24 NCAA Tournaments, and 19 bowl games (including four BCS games).
