Briana Whitney Biography
Briana Whitney is an American Emmy-winning reporter and hosts working for 3TV as host of True Crime Arizona and a reporter for the weeknight news at 8, 9, and 10 pm. She joined Arizona’s Family in February 2018, after previously working for KIII-TV in Corpus Christi, Texas, for three years.
For Briana’s work as a reporter in Phoenix, she won five Emmy awards and an Edward R. Murrow award was awarded to her for the True Crime Arizona podcast. Her podcast, True Crime Arizona has more than one million downloads and is listened to in 100+ countries worldwide. She assisted in breaking the story of Hacienda Healthcare in 2019, whereby a woman in an incapacitated state was raped and gave birth, with nobody at the facility being aware of her pregnancy. Whitney followed the story and was able to uncover other abuse cases and malpractice. As a result of Whitney’s reports, a mass exit of leaders in the facility and part of the facility to close and a change in Arizona law.
In addition, she spent a number of months following a Glendale firefighter’s cancer claim denial. Her report resulted in the city overturning the denial and the firefighter getting the assistance he needed for the rest of his life. Furthermore, Briana reported on a number of national stories during her time in South Texas. A number of her most memorable stories covered were; the 2015 Wimberley floods, reporting from the church shooting in Sutherland Springs in November of 2017 and reporting for eight hours off the Gulf of Mexico during Hurricane Harvey in August of 2017.
Two Associated Press awards were awarded to Whitney for her reporting in Texas and for a half-hour special she wrote, produced, and hosted on the issue of child pornography, she got nominated for an Emmy award. In addition, she attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where she graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism and while she was still in college, she interned at a number of stations. During her spare time, she enjoys hiking local mountains, checking out the best restaurants in the Valley, and taking trips to all the towns northern and southern Arizona has to offer.
