Brian Walder Biography
Brian Walder is an American meteorologist working for WEEK 25 as a First Alert Meteorologist on weekdays at 5, 5:30 and 10 PM. He joined the WEEK 25 news team in September 2022, after previously working for Heart of Illinois ABC.
Walder earned his Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from Penn State in 2012. During his time at the university, he actively contributed to PSU’s Campus Weather Service and made appearances on the show Weather or Not. Furthermore, he also gained valuable experience as an intern at WWAY in Wilmington, NC, during the summer of 2011. Merely 10 days after graduating, he began his meteorological career at WVVA in Bluefield, WV, serving as their Weekend Meteorologist. A few months later, he earned a promotion to the role of Morning Meteorologist.
In 2014, he ventured a couple of hours south to become the Weekend Meteorologist at WJHL in Johnson City, TN. Here he delivered forecasts for northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia for three years, including on ABC Tri-Cities. In 2017, he made his way to Central Illinois, joining the team at an undisclosed station in Peoria. Throughout his time there, he dedicated himself to keeping viewers informed and safe, covering a range of weather conditions from severe weather to winter storms.
In 2019, the American Meteorological Society recognized his commitment to meteorology when he achieved the designation of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist. This is the highest distinction for broadcast meteorologists. This recognition reflects his adherence to the scientific and communication standards of the AMS. Outside of work, he enjoys exploring his culinary skills in the kitchen and following his favorite sports teams. A devoted Philadelphia and Penn State fan, he passionately cheers for the Eagles, Phillies, and Penn State Football. Additionally, Walder is an avid animal lover and shares his home with a dog named Radar.
