Brian Patrick Flynn is an American television personality and interior designer. He is best known for his work on the home giveaway franchises HGTV Dream Home and HGTV Urban Oasis for which he has been designing since June 2015.
Career
In 2002, Brian started working as a news producer for an NBC affiliate in Fort Lauderdale. Brian moved from network to cable after creating a financial piece on low-cost interior design projects. He then joined the production team of Surprise by Design on The Discovery Channel. Brian moved to Atlanta for a similar role on the spin-off series Rally Round the House, which he prepared for with an eight-hour makeover schedule. Brian picked up the skills necessary to create outdoor living areas and deal with outdoor materials there. Flynn is a self-taught artist who attributes his passion for set design and set decoration to his formal degree in video production from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.
After Rally Round the House was canceled in 2003, Brian moved to become a front-of-camera designer for Movie & a Makeover. Brian took design duties for rooms such as dorm rooms, laundry rooms, garden sheds, fraternity houses, non-profit board rooms, pet care facilities, and outdoor living areas as part of the fashion and home renovation program. Brian produced two seasons of HGTV’s reality competition Design Star. In addition, he served as a featured “redesigner” on Decorating Cents and Movie & a Makeover. It is easiest to categorize Flynn’s settings as soft-masculine because of their distinctive blend of modern and traditional art, unusual color schemes, and realistic price ranges. A favorite among all design enthusiasts worldwide, the designer’s own rural residence in the Blue Ridge Mountains was highlighted in the October 2014 issue of Country Living magazine.
Among his other noteworthy endeavors are the interior design and décor of The Walking Dead actress Lauren Cohan’s Atlanta residence; the Los Angeles office and Atlanta loft of meteorologist and television anchor Rob Marciano; and the design of two of HGTV’s digital properties, Holiday House and Spring House, on hgtv.com. Flynn is based in Atlanta, but he regularly travels to his two-second homes—a Scandinavian pied-á-terre in Reykjavik, Iceland, and a country property in the highlands of north Georgia—to get creative inspiration.
