Brett Brooks is an American reporter working for WEEK 25 as a morning reporter and Multimedia Journalist. She joined the WEEK 25 news team in May 2022, after previously working for Miss Earth.
Brett Brooks Career
Brooks received her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Eastern Illinois University where she received numerous merit-based scholarships. She further pursued her Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois, Springfield in Public Affairs Reporting. She previously worked for National Public Radio, covering the 2015 Illinois General Assembly and then-Governor Bruce Rauner’s inaugural year in office. Throughout her journalism career, she has witnessed historic events such as former President Barack Obama’s Farewell Address in Chicago.
During this address, the then-President personally shared valuable advice with her, advice that remains dear to her heart. Additionally, she is familiar with Central Illinois, with Peoria being her third journalistic stop after serving as a producer in Decatur and the Dayside Reporter in Rockford, Illinois. In 2016, she achieved a significant milestone by becoming the youngest college professor in the state, teaching communication courses at Richland Community College in Decatur.
Born on the Southside of Chicago, she attended Glenbard North High School, where she developed a passion for leadership. Elected Class President throughout all four years and inducted into the Theatre Honor Society, she also excelled as an athlete, qualifying for the Illinois High School Association Girls State Track Meet in multiple events. With over a decade of participation in beauty pageants, she holds the title of four times Miss Illinois.
In addition to this, she has represented the Prairie State at national pageants like the 50th Anniversary of Miss Black America, Miss Earth USA, Miss Black USA, and more recently, Miss North America. As Miss Black Illinois USA 2016, she successfully advocated for Ovarian Cyst Awareness Week through an Illinois House Resolution during the second week of September, coinciding with Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Presently, she serves as the Executive Director and Producer of both the Miss Illinois Earth USA and Miss Wisconsin Earth USA competitions. She is a proud dog mom to Mister, a Yorkie mix, known for his ferocious guarding skills.
