Brenna Weick Meet Miss New Jersey
Seven years ago, when the Mantua Township teen won Miss New Jersey’s Outstanding Teen and competed at the sister competition to the televised pageant, where she came close to winning Miss America’s Outstanding Teen, Weick had all the makings of the next Miss New Jersey. She was heading to the 2017 Miss America competition in Atlantic City.
Weick finished second in her first contest, Miss New Jersey 2013, behind newcomer Cara McCollum, an Arkansas student attending Princeton University. The next year, she managed to replicate her feat of placing first runner-up. Then, in 2015, she fell one spot to finish in second place. She considered ending her quest for the crown. In the 2016 state competition held in Ocean City this past June, Weick’s fourth attempt at winning as Miss Seashore Line proved to be her lucky break.
Weick credits her shift in perspective for her victory. “Accept and adapt” is her new motto in life. Weick, a soprano with a “Disney princess” voice, will be singing “Someone Like You” from the musical “Jekyll & Hyde” at Miss America. She was a member of the collegiate dance team until sustaining a knee injury.
Former Miss New Jersey candidates gathered on social media to mourn the 24-year-old former pageant queen, a news anchor for SNJ Today in Millville, following the death of Cara McCollum, Miss New Jersey 2013, following an automobile accident in February. She was viewed like a sister by Weick, a promising investigative writer. Weick views her other strength as being in the interview section of the contest. When she was crowned Miss America, she declined a job offer to work as a production assistant at NBC 10 and stated that she would probably utilize the $50,000 scholarship to pursue a graduate degree in journalism.
