Brandon Butcher Biography
Brandon Butcher is an American meteorologist working for WSAZ as a morning meteorologist. He joined the WSAZ news team in 2011, after previously working for WDTV.
Brandon Butcher Career
Brandon holds a degree in meteorology from Penn State University and is a member of the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society, where he holds both their respective “Seals of Approval”. He began working as Chief Meteorologist at WDTV in Clarksburg, West Virginia, in 2000. After a few years, he moved back to his native Massachusetts to work in Springfield. As a multi-Emmy-winning meteorologist, Brandon has won multiple awards, including two consecutive Emmys for exceptional weather casting in the Boston/New England region.
For a special broadcast on the devastating floods in West Virginia in 1985, he was also awarded an Emmy in that state. In 2005, Brandon was recognized by the State Broadcasters Association as the “Best Weathercaster” in the state of West Virginia. Brandon has a fascination for extreme weather; he has taken on six hurricanes and aired live during a tornado as it was striking his studio building. Currently pursuing a master’s degree in education, Brandon is also a teacher, having taught meteorology at universities both inside and outside of the state.
