He was brought up in the Seattle area and he attended Lake Washington High School in Kirkland where he earned a diploma. Later on, he joined the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at Washington State University where he graduated proudly. Over the years, Bill has been able to cover a number of major events worldwide, and not long after the 2005 tsunami took place, he reported from South Asia. In addition, Wixey also reported the devastating earthquake in Haiti, and the Olympic Games in Vancouver, Beijing, and London.
For his anchoring and reporting, he has earned two Emmy awards. He was awarded an Emmy in 2003, for his outstanding work as an anchor, and in 2010, he received another Emmy for “Bill’s Journey,” which documented his successful battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. In the “Best of Western Washington contest of 2009, he was voted as the Western Washington Man of the Year. Furthermore, for his 2005 Mission of Hope documentary, he received accolades.
Prior to joining the FOX 13 team, he worked for Fox Sports Net where he serves as a principal anchor covering the Mariners during their amazing 116-win season of 2001. Before that, he worked for KIRO-TV in Seattle as a sports anchor and reporter. While he worked in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Bill was able to cover two Super Bowls with the Packers and during his time in Fort Smith, Arkansas, he covered two Final Fours with the Arkansas Razorbacks. In 1991, Wixey began his broadcasting career in Great Falls, Montana.
Whenever Wixey finds time, he enjoys donating his time to charitable causes in the community. He is involved in charity ventures with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Ronald McDonald House, St. Jude’s Hospital, the American Cancer Society, and Junior Achievement.
