Bianca Castro is an American anchor and medical reporter working for NBC 5 as a medical and healthcare reporter. She joined the NBC 5 news team in March 2014, as a First at Four co-anchor, alongside Kristi Nelson.
Prior to working in Dallas-Fort Worth, Bianca worked for WFTV, the ABC affiliate in Orlando, Florida where she served as an anchor and reporter for three and a half years. After having served as a morning anchor for a while. she became an investigative reporter. In addition, she became the WFTV enterprise reporter delivering exclusive stories and holding public officials accountable. Bianca did a series of reports that resulted in the resignation of the administration in charge of public funds meant for job seekers. She also made contributions to the Trayvon Martin shooting coverage.
Furthermore, Castro began her career in Waco where she served as a reporter. She covered a wide range of stories such as issues facing our troops at Fort Hood in Killeen, and President George W. Bush’s visits to his Crawford ranch. After a number of years of working in Waco, she relocated to Texas where she worked at KRIS in Corpus Christi where she served as an evening anchor. In addition, Bianca has also covered a number of hurricanes that hit the coast while she was there for four-and-a-half years.
During Bianca’s spare time, she enjoys volunteering in the community. She sat on the board of directors for local chapters of Family Outreach of Corpus Christi, Communities In Schools, and March of Dimes. She also volunteered with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. In addition, she attended Plano Senior High School where she graduated proudly. Later on, she joined Baylor University in the south where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in telecommunication. While in college, she interned at a Dallas television station where she worked even after graduating.
