Ben Simmoneau is an American anchor and reporter working for WCVB-TV as an evening anchor for the 4 pm, 5 pm, and 5:30 PM newscasts. He also leads the “Ben Has Your Back” consumer reporting franchise at the station.
Ben Simmoneau Career
Simmoneau started his career at WGAL, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate in Harrisburg-Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Prior to joining NewsCenter 5, Ben worked in New York City at WNYW where he served as a weekday morning anchor since he joined the station in 2013. Before that, he worked at KYW, the CBS-owned television station in Philadelphia where he was an anchor and investigative reporter for 5 years.
During the 2017 Sound Bites Awards, Simmoneau was awarded by the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association a first-place award for “On-Air Personality – Television.” Ben has received six Emmy awards and two Edward R. Murrow awards for his work at WGAL. In addition, Ben earned a Walter Cronkite Award for excellence in political journalism from the University of Southern California. Furthermore, he attended Ithaca College where he earned a degree in journalism. Prior to his graduation, he worked for Chris Matthews as a researcher on his bestselling book American: Beyond Our Grandest Notions.
While serving as the consumer reporter on ‘Ben Has Your Back’ at WCVB, he confronted state agencies, businesses, and federal programs. He has also assisted many viewers to recover thousands of dollars that are legally theirs. In addition, while he was in New York, he served on the Executive Council of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America Greater New York Chapter.
As of the moment, Simmoneau is actively involved with the New England Chapter, as he hosts the organization’s largest annual event the Fete of Food and Wine. He also hosts the New England Chapter’s yearly Take Steps walk fundraiser. In previous years, Ben worked with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the Children’s Miracle Network. During Ben’s free time, he enjoys traveling, reading, and spending ample time with his family.
