Ashley Willcott is an American former judge, Child Welfare Law Specialist, Child Advocate, and Trial Attorney working for COURT TV as the host for the Court TV’s live coverage, on weekdays from 3 to 6 p.m. ET. She joined the COURT TV news team in 2020, after previously working for CNN.

Willcott graduated from Tulane University, in 1989, obtaining a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Psychology and English. Furthermore, she further pursued her education and earned a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) in Law from Emory University School of Law in 1992. Similarly, she is widely recognized as a specialist in Child Welfare Law and holds the role of a Juvenile Court Judge. She has over two decades of experience as a trial attorney and legal analyst. Her dedicated focus revolves around advocating passionately for children at risk and working towards improving the lives of youth in the foster care system. Where, she was serving as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the Department of Human Resources, Dawson, and Rockdale County Division of Family and Children Services. Additionally, she actively served as a Judge Pro Tem in the DeKalb County Juvenile Court. Moreover, she was also honored as the Lead Fellow of the Cold Case Project by the Supreme Court of Georgia Committee on Justice for Children. Later, she becomes a Special Master.
The project’s objective was to secure permanency for children in foster care, preventing them from aging out without a home or family. In her most recent role, she spent three years as the Director of the State of Georgia Office of the Child Advocate, a position personally appointed by Governor Nathan Deal. In this capacity, she oversaw a population of over 13,000 at-risk children and youth in foster care. Notable achievements during her tenure include managing investigations of around 600 child welfare complaints annually, and conducting statewide audits of DFCS. In addition to that she was providing extensive training and education to various stakeholders. Presently, she has returned to private practice, establishing her own child welfare consulting firm.
In this capacity, she operates as a trial attorney, legal analyst, expert witness, consultant, and Pro Tem Judge specializing in Child Welfare Law. Her expertise extends to federal court litigation involving child abduction cases under the Hague Abduction Convention. She is a sought-after guest lecturer and speaker, dedicating herself to raising public awareness and tirelessly advocating for children.
