Anthony Wilson Biography
Anthony Wilson is an American anchor working for ABC 11 as the co-anchor of the weekend morning newscast and reporter on weekday mornings on Eyewitness News and abc11.com. He joined the ABC 11 news team in August 1993.
Prior to joining ABC 11, Wilson worked at WXII in Winston-Salem where he served as a reporter and substitute anchor for three years. While he worked at WXII, the Associated Press awarded him a Best Feature award for his series of reports on gospel music on “A Joyful Noise,” in North Carolina. In addition, Wilson has also worked for Florida Public Television where he served as a reporter and producer. While he was there, he filed a series of documentaries about the Miami riots, the manufacture, and marketing of assault weapons, covered the state legislature, the homelessness in South Florida, and the “Official English” movement.
Furthermore, Anthony has previously worked for “Crossroads” which is the National Public Radio weekly news magazine as an anchor/host. He also worked for the national communications office of the Episcopal Church as an electronic media producer and as a newswriter for the all-news radio station WINS in New York City. In addition, Anthony traveled to South Africa where he covered Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s enthronement.
Anthony attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York where he graduated proudly. He is a former broadcast vice-president of the Triangle Association of Black Journalists. Wilson is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and he is also a lead instructor of NABJ’s annual four-day short course for aspiring journalists at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, North Carolina. Furthermore, Anthony worked to develop more minority journalists while taking part in the Unity: Journalists of Color mentor program.
