Anita Blanton is an American Emmy award-winning anchor working for FOX32 as a weekday morning anchor on Good Day Chicago. She joined the FOX 32/WFLD-TV team in April 2022, after previously working for WAVY-TV10/WVBT FOX43 in Hampton Roads, Virginia.
Anita Blanto Career
Prior to joining FOX 32, Blanton worked for WAVY-TV10/WVBT FOX43 in Hampton Roads, Virginia where she served as an evening anchor for nine years. Anita started her journalism career at KTXS-TV in Abilene, Texas where she served as a reporter, Later on, Blanton worked at WRIC-TV in Richmond, Virginia, and KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. While she worked at KOCO-TV, she served as a morning anchor for a period of 4 years.
Over the years, Anita has reported a number of big stories including severe weather. Blanton has chased tornadoes, covered two blizzards, and delivered live reports during one of the worst fire seasons in Texas history. In addition, while Anita was in Texas, she visited world leaders in Crawford, Texas, and covered President George W. Bush. Furthermore, while she was in Virginia, she covered a number of high-profile stories such as the Virginia Beach Municipal Center, and the tragic mass shootings at Virginia Tech University. In addition, Blanton annually anchored the site of the Oklahoma City Bombing on that tragic event’s anniversary for three years.
Blanton attended Hampton University in Hampton, VA where she studied at its Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science. In the year 2016, she was named to the inaugural Top 40 Under 40 Class of Alumni. Over the years, Anita has won many awards for her work as an anchor and reporter from the Associated Press and the Society of Professional Journalists.
Furthermore, Blanton was inducted into the Congressional Record. She has received a number of community service awards such as a citation signed by the Governor of Oklahoma for her dedication to giving back. The Urban League of Hampton Roads awarded Anita with the Silver Star Legacy Award. She has also been a volunteer, spokesperson, and board member of a number of organizations.
For two years, she was chosen to sing the National Anthem for the Oklahoma City Thunder NBA team. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and the National Association of Black Journalists.
