Amanda Kenney is an American Emmy award-winning anchor and reporter who worked for WFXR as a morning anchor and reporter from 5 a.m., 6 a.m., 7 a.m., 9 a.m., and 12 p.m. She joined the WFXR news team in January 2021, after previously working for WTAJ.

Kenney studied Broadcast Journalism and Political Science at Hofstra University, making her the first member of her family to earn a four-year college degree. Her passion for broadcasting began in high school, where she anchored the morning news. Before she joined WFXR’s Good Day Virginia team as a morning anchor in January 2021, Kenney worked at WDBJ7, in the Roanoke, Virginia area as an evening news anchor. She left the station in 2017 to anchor the evening news at WTAJ in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
Amanda has over ten years of journalism experience and is currently an Emmy Award-winning journalist. Despite having worked in almost every department of the company, she enjoys telling stories that inspire the community, keep individuals accountable, and encourage kindness. Amanda has reported on a variety of stories, including President Trump’s visit to a Pittsburgh synagogue after a mass massacre, catastrophic floods in West Virginia and Binghamton, and an accident at a fertilizer plant in Texas.
She will always remember covering the trial of Nidal Hasan, the Roanoke native who shot and murdered 13 people at Fort Hood and injured over thirty more. The hardest assignment in Amanda’s career was undoubtedly covering the horrific murders of her coworkers, Adam Ward and Alison Parker, which she reported with great care. During her spare time, Amanda enjoys getting outdoors whether it’s in her garden, yoga, hiking, on her paddleboard, or with her puppy Paxton. She loves to get out in the community and meet new people.
