Alicia Smith is an American four-time Emmy award-winning anchor and reporter who is currently working at WXYZ. She serves as a morning anchor on 7 Action News This Morning from 4:30 am – 7:00 am on WXYZ and from 7:00 am – 9:00 am on TV 20 Detroit. In addition, she joined the WXYZ news team in January 2007 as a morning anchor. She works alongside  Ali Hoxie, Kevin Jeanes, and Keenan Smith on the morning segment.

Since 1995, she has served as both an anchor and reporter. She earned an Emmy award for revealing a program that was helping victims of human trafficking which she did in March 2007 covering the streets of Wayne County. While she worked at WWMT in Kalamazoo/Grand Rapids she served as an anchor and reporter. In addition, for four days, she produced and reported 11 stories which she delivered live from Ground Zero in New York City for WWMT’s award-winning 9/11 anniversary special in 2002.

Furthermore, her series which featured two missing West Michigan children’s cold cases won her another Emmy Award while she worked at WWMT. She is also passionate about giving back to the community and promoting causes close to her heart – including; the Sky Foundation, Grant Me Hope, the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy’s early literacy program Reading and Rhythm on the Riverfront, Make-A-Wish Michigan, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange,  Michigan Humane, , Friends of Foster Kids, the Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division, and Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan.

She is also a huge animal lover and has served as the host of the annual Michigan Humane Day of Giving Telethon since 2008 on Channel 7. In addition, she created and led the BuildUp for five years which is a partnership with Habitat for Humanity Detroit and WXYZ’s Detroit 2020 team to help with construction and block improvement efforts in Detroit neighborhoods.

Furthermore., over the years, she has worked at; WTVM in Columbus, Georgia where she served as an anchor and reporter, WBSG in Brunswick, Georgia where she was an anchor and reporter, WBSG in Brunswick, Georgia, WTOC in Savannah, Georgia, WWMT in Kalamazoo, Michigan where she served as an anchor and reporter. In addition, she attended the University of Georgia where she studied at UGA’s Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. While she was at the University, she served as a George Foster Peabody Awards Student Judge.

She graduated with a major in Broadcast News and minored in Political Science prior to also being involved in the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and a number of campus activities and philanthropies. Additionally, she was honored as the Senior Female of the Year by the Young Alumni Council for the University of Georgia Alumni Society.
