Alexis Rivas Biography
Alexis Rivas is an American Emmy-Award Winning reporter working for NBC7 San Diego as an investigative reporter. She joined the NBC 7 news team in August 2019, after previously working for ABC21.
Rivas graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Public Relations and Art History, Marketing in 2011. While there she was part of Alpha Delta Pi, PRSSA, Super Bowl XLIV Media Center Volunteer Ambassador, Commuter Advisory Board, and UM Alternative Spring Break. She went on to pursue a master’s degree in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 2014.
Firstly, she started her professional journalism career at FOX28 in South Bend, Ind. as an MMJ and ultimately, as a weekend anchor in 2014. Prior to this, she had begun her professional marketing career as an account executive at a public relations agency in Miami called The David PR Group. Here, she booked clients appearances on local, national and cable news networks, and interviews in local and national newspapers.
Prior to joining NBC7 San Diego, she was a News Anchor on ABC21. In her time there, she won a National Murrow Award and Emmy for an investigation into a factory worker death that prompted an overhaul to Indiana’s workers compensation laws – marking the first changes to the statute in more than 30 years. In addition, she is a proud Miami Hurricane and a shameless Miami Dolphins fan.
