Alex Maragos Biography
Alex Maragos is an American anchor and reporter working for NBC 5 as a weekday morning and evening anchor at 11 a.m. and 4 pm. He joined the NBC 5 news team as a general assignment reporter in August 2015.
Chicago is Marago’s native home and he attended Loyola Academy in Wilmette where he graduated proudly. Later on, he joined Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia where he majored in Journalism and Mass Communications and played baseball for four years. He interned at NBC Sports Chicago and at ESPN Radio WMVP-AM 1000, news/talk WLS-AM 890.
After having completed his internship, Alex secured a job at WLFI-TV 18 in West Lafayette, Indiana where he served as a morning anchor, midday anchor, and reporter for almost 2 years. While he worked at WLFI-TV 18, he was awarded for his feature reporting and breaking news with the Indiana Broadcasters Association. In addition, he also won awards from the Society of Professional Journalists. Furthermore, he then joined NBC 5 in August 2015 as a general assignment reporter a position he held for 8 months.
Later on, Alex was promoted to serving as a morning and midday anchor a position he held for 4 and a half years. Maragos has also served as a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter for three days of the week. In addition, after serving as a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter, he was promoted to his current position as a weekday anchor and reporter in January 2023. Maragos was in Beijing, China for a month in 2022, while he covered the Winter Olympic Games. He has also worked for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon as the start and finish line reporter since 2016.
