Ahmed Fareed Biography
Ahmed Fareed is an American anchor and reporter working for NBC Sports as a studio host and sports reporter. He joined the NBC Sports news team in January 2013, after previously working for MLB Network.

Fareer earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism from the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communication in 2002. His career started at WXMI-TV, where he spent one year, and then became a weekend sports anchor for WILX-TV and WSYM-TV in Lansing, Michigan. Fareed then moved to WAVY-TV in Portsmouth, VA, where he spent five years covering local sports. He also covered the Washington Redskins, the Norfolk Tides, Virginia Tech Hokies, and the Virginia Cavaliers.
Before working at NBC Sports Bay Area in San Francisco, he worked for MLB Network from 2011 to 2012. During that time, he made frequent appearances on studio shows like MLB Tonight and Quick Pitch. Moreover, Fareed hosted the 2016 Summer and 2018 Winter Olympics from the studio on USA Network and NBCSN.
NBC Sports Net revealed in February 2019 that Fareed would be moving from his Bay Area job to their headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, where he will cover a variety of sports, including Premiership Rugby. He hosted the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in July 2021 on NBCSN and Olympic Channel as a studio host as well. Fareed began covering MLB games for Peacock as a field writer in 2022. He served as the host of the 2022 Golden Goggle Awards at the Marriott Marquis in New York City in November.
Fareed presently contributes to NBC’s coverage of horse racing and the Premier League in addition to co-hosting College Countdown, the pregame show for the network’s college football and basketball coverage. Because Maria Taylor was on a maternity break in 2023, Fareed hosted Football Night in America as well. Previously, Fareed had taken over as host when Taylor hosted from the location of Sunday Night Football games, or when Mike Tirico replaced Al Michaels during the 2020 season and Liam McHugh was unable to host in the studio.

On December 18, 2023, it was announced that Fareed would host Football Night In America for the remainder of the NFL regular season and playoffs, in place of Maria Taylor as she takes her parental leave. On Saturday, December 23, NBC Sports will broadcast a doubleheader featuring the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals at 4:30 p.m. ET and the Los Angeles Chargers and Buffalo Bills at 8 p.m. ET, which will air exclusively on Peacock. Fareed will host the pregame studio show for “Sunday Night Football.”
In addition to covering Taylor on “Football Night In America,” Fareed has also filled in on other shows, including the network’s Big Ten college football package’s Saturday night prime time “B1G College Countdown.” Along with covering four Olympics for NBC Sports, he currently hosts “MLB Sunday Leadoff” and Peacock’s Big Ten men’s basketball coverage.
