Abbi Bennett is an American anchor and reporter working for FOX21 as a Sports Director and weekday anchor at 5 p.m., 9 p.m., and 10 p.m. She joined the FOX21 news team in September 2023, after previously working for Sooner Sports Pad.
Bennett earned her degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Sports Management from The University of Oklahoma (“OU”) in May 2022. Despite her parents being UT Longhorns, she felt an immediate connection to the OU campus in Norman, Oklahoma. Intrigued by both the OU football program and the opportunities at the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication, she discovered her passion for journalism and broadcasting during her four years there. As a Sports Anchor and Reporter at FOX21 News, she enjoys informing Southern Colorado about the latest sporting events and news in the Colorado Springs and Denver area. You can catch her anchoring on Monday and Tuesday during the 5 p.m., 9 p.m., and 10 p.m. newscasts. Additionally, she can also be found reporting on local sports at other times throughout the week. Growing up in a sports-focused family, she participated in various athletic activities, but her true passion lies in soccer.
Initially influenced by her dad, she became a dedicated fan of Dallas professional sports teams, including the Cowboys, Mavericks, and Rangers. This bonding experience on the couch with her dad solidified her allegiance to these teams. Furthermore, she actively pursued her interest in sports broadcasting during her time at OU, contributing to three student-produced shows. These shows include; OU Nightly, Sooner Sports Pad, and Gameday U. Additionally, she held leadership roles as Vice President and President of AWSM (Association of Women in Sports Media). Inspired by accomplished female sports broadcasters such as Erin Andrews, Charissa Thompson, and Jenny Taft, she aspires to cover football nationally for Fox Sports in the future. Her favorite sports include football, soccer, and basketball, and she remains enthusiastic about achieving her goal of national football coverage on Fox Sports one day.
