A.J. Burnett Biography
A.J. Burnett is an American Emmy award-winning meteorologist working for WCVB-TV as a meteorologist and weather producer. He joined the WCVB-TV StormTeam 5 team in January 2016.
Cape Cod is A. J’s native home and he attended Barnstable High School where he earned a high school diploma in 1992. He then joined Rutgers University in New Jersey. where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Earth and Atmospheric Science in 1996. In addition, Burnett holds teacher certification in both Earth Science and mathematics, and he taught high school science and math for a short while.
Over the years, Burnett has worked on a number of television stations in New England such as; New England Cable News, WCSH6/WLBZ2 in Maine, WFXT in Boston, and at WMUR-TV in New Hampshire. A. J has covered several memorable storms such as Super Storm Sandy, the powerful January Nor’easter of 2018, and the Tornado Outbreak in western Massachusetts in 2011. In addition, A.J. holds the AMS Television Seal of Approval that was awarded to him for his excellence in broadcast meteorology, and he is a member of the American Meteorological Society.
In addition, for A.J’s storm coverage during a Nor’easter, The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Boston/New England Chapter awarded him a regional Emmy award in 2022. Burnett has received many nominations for his work with NewsCenter 5 and Chronicle teams while covering climate change.
Aside from Burnett’s work at WCVB, he emcees and volunteers at a number of local galas and events. Over the years, he has worked with Birthday Wishes, which is a group that is devoted to providing birthday parties to children experiencing homelessness. He has also been a huge supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association chapters in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine.
