New York City is where Murphy was born and brought up and she attended Harvard University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1981. She started her career at the CBS affiliate in Chattanooga and later on, she worked across Tennessee and Memphis while working for ABC affiliates.
Over the years, Esme has won many awards including an Associated Press First Place Award for feature reporting, non-spot news reporting, and investigative reporting.
