Jim Scott Biography
Jim Scott is an American anchor and reporter working for KGET 17 as a news anchor and managing editor. He joined the KGET 17 news team in October 1996.
Scott was born and brought up in Casper, Wyoming and he also considers Bakersfield his home. Since Jim was in sophomore at a high school in Casper, Wyoming, he has always been interested in broadcasting. In addition, he secured his first radio job while he was 15 years old at on KATI AM where he was a disc jockey on weekends. Jim served as a DJ through his high school and college years before later being chosen as a student news director at the campus station at University of Wyoming.
He attended the Univeristy of Wyoming where he earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting in 1980. After completing college, he secured a job at KASL-AM in Newcastle, Wyoming where he served as a news director. Scott secured his first job on television at KCWY TV in Casper. In addition, Jim relocated to Bakersfield in 1983, where he worked for KERO TV as an anchor and reporter.
Later in 1994, Scott and his family relocated to San Diego where he worked at KUSI TV as a reporter and weekend anchor. He was offter a job at KGET TV in 1996, and ever since, he has been working at the station. While working at the station, he has covered government affairs, agriculture, aerospace, and the environment. Furthermore, Jim has also served as the producer and host of a weekly talk show; Kern County, that covers in-depth coverage of local issues of interest. Furthermore, Jim has regguraly served as an emcee at fundraising events for a wide variety of non-profit organizations.
