Russell Jones is an American anchor and reporter working at WBRC 6. He serves as a weekday reporter on Good Day Alabama and a weekend morning anchor. In addition, Jones joined the WBRC 6 news team in July 2018, after previously working at KOCO 5 News.
Birmingham is Jones’ native home, and he attended Hoover High School, where he earned a high school diploma. Later on, Russell joined the University of Alabama, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Radio and Television Broadcasting Technology in 2015. While he was still in college, he interned at ABC 33/40 in Birmingham. Prior to joining the WBRC 6 team, Russell was in Oklahoma City, where he worked at KOCO 5 News. During his time at KOCO 5 News, he served as a morning reporter/fill-in anchor.
In addition, Jones broadcasted breaking news in the morning hours across the metro area while at KOCO 5. Later on, he did lighthearted in-studio and on-location interviews. Furthermore, he has also worked at WMBB in Panama City, Florida, while serving as a reporter. Some of these stories include a bear attack in Apalachicola, the Oklahoma teachers strike, Panama City Beach spring break, and tornado damage in Oklahoma. Furthermore, Russell was an active volunteer of the Make-A-Wish America children’s organization in 2014.
