Ferguson began his television career on October 21, 1987, in Anniston, Alabama, where he worked at WJSU-TV as a news producer. His first shot on-air came when he agreed to do the morning news updates at 4:20 a.m. Not long after, Mickey was promoted to weekend news reporter and anchor. Later in 1990, Ferguson relocated to Birmingham, where he joined the local CBS affiliate, WBMG-TV. While he was there, he served as the weekend anchor and reporter.
In addition, Mickey has also worked in the family’s cabinet-making business; this was after he took a break from television. However, he did not last in that area; thus, he returned to television. Mickey joined the WVTM-TV news team as a weekend weather anchor, and while he was there, his weather career was born. Furthermore, his love for weather grew, and not long after, he found himself looking for a new TV home due to budget cutbacks.
Furthermore, Ferguson has also worked in Montgomery at WSFA-TV, where he served as the co-host of the morning show. While he was at WSFA-TV, he also forecasted weather, and after working at the station for three years, he left for WBRC. Upon joining the WBRC team, Mickey took up the morning weather position. After having joined the WBRC station, he has made an impact on the station. He has contributed to the 4 a.m. until 9 a.m. weather newscast every week while on Good Day Alabama.
