Taniya Wright is an American anchor working at DC News Now where she served as the co-anchor of the 5 a.m. to 9 a.m newscast alongside anchor Cory James, Shennekia Grimshaw, and meteorologist Jackie Layer.
She has served as a journalist for over 15 years and she has served as an anchor in Tulsa, Okla, Raleigh, N.C, and Houston, Texas. She began her on-air career at WDVM where she served as the noon, 5 p.m., and 5:30 p.m anchor. Over the years, she has been privileged to share numerous unique stories and interviews from each community in which she has lived. In addition, her most unforgettable interviews featured a real-life couple whose love story was featured in the Broadway musical “Come from Away,” two women trail bosses from the only female-led trail group at the Houston Rodeo, and a veteran suffering from PTSD and learning how to recover through dance.
Furthermore, she also serves as a guest speaker on many events and she has been an active participant in many fundraisers and events for such noteworthy organizations as the Rescued Pets Movement, Habitat for Humanity, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Humane Society of Washington County, Houston Blue Star Mothers, Carolina Tiger Rescue, and Hope Reins Equine Therapy Program.
Wright is also a member of the Gold Star Family and she is a recipient of a scholarship. She also supports the Special Operations Warrior Foundation which is an organization that assists the children of fallen Special Operators attending college. During her leisure time, she enjoys meeting new people, traveling, and attending sporting events.
