He often did this while reporting live through a specially modified backpack that let him do this 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Following 12 years of work at the Canadian network CTV, Newton joined CNN in 2005. At CTV, she had important jobs like Moscow Bureau Chief and National Affairs Correspondent in Ottawa. She worked at CTV as an Atlantic Affairs reporter in Halifax and a Quebec Affairs correspondent in Montreal. She also hosted some of the network’s most popular news shows from time to time. Newton worked as a host and reporter for two years at TTC’s CHCH TV and for the same amount of time at Atlantic TV News before joining CTV. In 1986, she began her work as a parliamentary producer at the Ottawa bureau of Independent Satellite News.
Newton has won many prizes, including two World Medals from the New York Festival. One was for a story she wrote about selling organs, and the other was for another story she wrote about the war in Kosovo. She also won the Canadian Gemini Award for Best Reportage. Newton went to McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and got a Master of Business Administration in International Finance. She also went to Carleton University in Ottawa and got a Bachelor of Journalism and Political Science with Honors. She speaks English, French, and Italian very well.
