Stephanie Ruhle is an American anchor and host working for MSNBC as an anchor for The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle show. She joined the MSNBC news team in August 2022, after previously working for CBS.
Ruhle was raised in Park Ridge, New Jersey, and attended Park Ridge High School. She graduated from Lehigh University, earning her bachelor’s degree in international business in 1997. During her studies, she had the opportunity to study in Guatemala, Italy, and Kenya as part of her major. In 2017, she returned to Lehigh to deliver the commencement address. Prior to joining Bloomberg, she had a successful 14-year career in the finance industry. During college, she interned for Merrill Lynch and later joined Credit Suisse, where she spent six years in hedge fund sales. At Credit Suisse First Boston, she became the highest-producing credit derivatives salesperson in the United States. In 2003, Ruhle joined Deutsche Bank as a credit salesperson, eventually becoming a managing director in Global Markets Senior Relationship Management.
At Deutsche Bank, she founded the Global Market Women’s Network to support women in leadership roles. In October 2011, she joined Bloomberg Television, co-hosting “Inside Track” and later “Market Makers” with David Westin. She also co-hosted “Bloomberg GO” before leaving the network. During her time at Bloomberg, she interviewed notable figures in business, finance, and entertainment. In April 2012, Ruhle, along with other Bloomberg reporters, broke the story of the London Whale, the trader behind the 2012 JPMorgan Chase trading loss. She left Bloomberg in April 2016 to join The Atlantic as a senior editor. Later in 2016, she replaced Vinita Nair on CBS This Morning Saturday. In 2020, she launched a podcast with Crooked Media and Cadence13 addressing the COVID-19 pandemic. In August 2022, she began hosting “Alex Wagner Tonight” on MSNBC, taking over Rachel Maddow’s 9 PM slots from Tuesday through Friday.
She also became the permanent anchor of “The 11th Hour” on MSNBC on January 27, 2022. Ruhle has been actively involved in promoting gender diversity and women’s leadership in the corporate world. She founded the Corporate Investment Bank (CIB) Women’s Network and co-chaired the Women on Wall Street (WOWS) steering committee. Moreover, she is a member of the board of trustees for Girls, Inc. New York and has been associated with various organizations supporting women in business, government, and media. In early 2023, she faced scrutiny in a lawsuit involving sportswear company Under Armour, with court documents revealing her close relationship with the company founder, Kevin Plank, and her role as a confidant providing counsel. The legal proceedings raised questions about her involvement and communication with Plank, including trips on his private plane.
