Candace Owens Biography
Candace Owens is an American author, conservative political commentator, television host and activist. She is best known as the host of The Candace Owens Show.
Candace Owens Career
Owens initially pursued an undergraduate degree in journalism at the University of Rhode Island but left during her junior year due to a student loan issue. Following this, she worked as an intern for Vogue magazine in New York. In 2012, she joined a private equity firm in Manhattan as an administrative assistant, eventually ascending to the role of vice president of administration. In 2015, she served as the CEO of Degree180, a marketing agency providing consultation, production, and planning services. This included a blog featuring content from Owens and other commentators. In a 2015 column for the site, she criticized conservative Republicans, referring to the “bat-shit-crazy antics of the Republican Tea Party” and expressing hope for social change in the future.
In 2016, she launched SocialAutopsy.com, a website intended to expose online bullies by tracking their digital footprint. The site aimed to categorize offensive posts by users’ names through user-submitted screenshots. She utilized crowdfunding on Kickstarter for the project, but the proposal sparked immediate controversy. Critics argued that it could lead to the de-anonymization (doxing) of internet users and violate their privacy. The website faced condemnation from both conservatives and progressives, with concerns raised about its potential for public shaming and encouraging doxing and retaliatory harassment. In response to the backlash, her private details were posted online, which she attributed to progressives without substantial evidence.
This incident garnered support from conservatives involved in the Gamergate harassment campaign, including figures like Milo Yiannopoulos and Mike Cernovich. Owens, formerly a liberal, declared herself a conservative in 2017, citing the Social Autopsy controversy as a turning point. Kickstarter suspended funding for Social Autopsy, and the website was never developed.

BLEXIT Foundation
“Blexit,” a term initially coined by Me’Lea Connelly, is a blend of “black” and “exit,” inspired by “Brexit,” the term used for the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union. The original Blexit movement, initiated in 2016 by Connelly, aimed at achieving black economic independence. This was by encouraging black Americans to move away from traditional financial systems that historically disadvantaged the black community. In late 2018, Owens launched a different BLEXIT foundation, featuring a social media campaign urging ethnic minorities, including African Americans and Latinos, to leave the Democratic Party and register as Republicans. At that time, only 8% of black Americans identified as Republicans. In 2023, the Blexit Foundation merged with Turning Point USA, an organization Owens had previously worked for.
During the October 2018 launch, she initially claimed that Kanye West, her “dear friend and fellow superhero,” had designed merchandise for the movement. However, the following day, West disavowed any association with Blexit, denying his role as the designer and stating, “I never wanted any association with Blexit… I’ve been used to spread messages I don’t believe in.” Despite an apology, West continued to support Owens as of September 2020.
Legal Issues
During an Instagram livestream on June 22, 2021, Owens made serious accusations against former Republican congressional candidate Kimberly Klacik. She accused Klacik of engaging in money laundering, tax fraud, illegal drug use, and misusing campaign funds. Additionally, she also claimed that Klacik is involved in running a strip club and recruits strippers for it. Klacik vehemently denied these allegations and requested her to take down the video, but Owens refused. In response, Klacik filed a lawsuit against her in July 2021, seeking $20 million for defamation. Klacik argued that the false accusations caused her to lose political support, face removal from public events, experience a canceled book deal, and endure harassment against her and her family. The lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice in December 2022.
In April 2022, a separate class-action lawsuit was filed in Florida against LGBcoin, a cryptocurrency company, Owens, stock car racing driver Brandon Brown, and NASCAR. The lawsuit claimed that the defendants made false statements about LGBcoin and alleged that the founders of the company were involved in a pump-and-dump scheme.
Candace Owens Conservative Activism
By late 2017, Owens shifted her stance, producing pro-Trump commentary and criticizing concepts like structural racism, systemic inequality, and identity politics—ideas she had supported two years earlier. In August 2017, she started posting politically themed videos on YouTube. In September of the same year, she launched Red Pill Black, a website and YouTube channel promoting black conservatism in the United States. Later in November 2017, she was hired as the Director of Urban Engagement by Turning Point USA, founded by Charlie Kirk, amid allegations of racism at the organization. She left her role as communications director for Turning Point in May 2019. In April 2018, Kanye West tweeted his admiration for Owens’ thinking, a tweet that drew mixed reactions from West’s fans.
She hosted The Candace Owens Show on PragerU’s YouTube channel in May 2019, leaving PragerU in 2020 to host “Candace,” a show on The Daily Wire. In April 2020, Owens announced her intention to run for office in the U.S. Senate or as a governor. Furthermore, she specified that she would challenge an incumbent Democrat, not a Republican. The specifics of the office and election cycle were not disclosed. She joined The Daily Wire and began hosting her podcast, “Candace,” on the platform in March 2021.
