Michael Patterson Biography
Michael Patterson is an American anchor and reporter working for KBFX as an Evening News Anchor. He joined the KBFX news team in March 2023, after previously working for KAEF-ABC23.
In 2019, Patterson earned his Broadcast Journalism degree from California State University Fullerton. Shortly thereafter, he ventured to Chico, CA, to take on the role of a Morning News Reporter with KRCR. During his time there, he reported on the recovery efforts in the Town of Paradise following the devastating 2018 Camp Fire that claimed 85 lives. His professional journey continued with nearly three years in Eureka, CA, where he served as a News Director and Anchor at KAEF. His work in Eureka included holding public officials accountable for their communication during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. After several years of traversing California, he returned to Southern California. He joined the Bakersfield Now team in March 2023 as an Evening Anchor, bringing with him almost four years of valuable broadcast experience.
Excited about becoming part of the Bakersfield community, he is eager to contribute to the local news scene. Despite his relatively early career stage, he has discovered the beauty in every community and believes that every person has a story worth sharing. He sees it as a journalist’s responsibility to empower communities. This is by providing information that enables them to make more informed decisions about the world around them. Outside the newsroom, he enjoys watching sports, working out, and playing video games. As a self-proclaimed nerd, he takes pleasure in delving into superfan cultures and sharing his interests with others. Additionally, he has a particular affinity for the Los Angeles Football Club, San Diego Padres, and Formula 1 racing. Furthermore, he appreciates a good beer in his downtime.
