Vause has been reporting from more than 30 places over the past 25 years. He has lived in Atlanta, Beijing, Jerusalem, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Canberra, and Los Angeles before. He has seen for himself how terrible some of the worst natural disasters in the world are: earthquakes in China and Haiti, forest fires, floods, and typhoons. When he went back to Karachi after she was killed, he was one of the last reporters to talk to former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

When a U.S. bombing killed Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, in 2006, Vause was the only reporter from outside of the U.S. who went to the scene. Before the U.S.-led invasion, he traveled through Iraq for months. Unlike many reporters, he wasn’t embedded with coalition troops; instead, he was one of three CNN International anchors based in Kuwait in the months before the invasion. He went to Pakistan and then Afghanistan to cover the fall of the Taliban. He was one of the few reporters who covered the attacks from New York.
