Kristin Leitheuser Career

Leitheuser is a former basketball standout and graduate of Arlington High School in Texas. She has transitioned from her athletic roots to become a contractor and co-host of HGTV’s ‘Small Town Potential.’ Standing at an impressive height of 5 feet 11 inches, she made a name for herself as a women’s basketball player during her high school years, earning recognition for her impressive scoring abilities. During her collegiate years, she played in 25 games for the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers, showcasing her skills in the guard and forward positions. She achieved notable feats, including scoring a season-high 12 points against the Colgate team. Additionally, she also secured a season-best 9 rebounds. She also pursued her education at New York University Tandon School of Engineering.

Here, she achieved notable success as a two-time competitor in the All-Skyline Conference. Throughout her impressive four seasons of NCAA basketball, she amassed a total of 1,059 points, secured 637 rebounds, and contributed 174 assists. After completing her academic journey, she transitioned into coaching and was hired as the assistant women’s basketball coach at New Jersey City University for the 2011-12 season, as reported by NYU Tandon School of Engineering. In her basketball career, both as a college player and a coach, she presented a somewhat different appearance compared to her look in “Small Town Potential.” She shared with HGTV, “Most of my life, I had long, blonde hair. I chopped it off almost five years ago.” Despite her success in basketball, she later opted to pursue a career in construction and building.

Currently, she leverages her expertise to bring design plans to life, working closely with her father and building partner. Her journey from the basketball court to the construction site reflects her diverse skills and determination to excel in various fields. As Leitheuser explained, she has inherited her father’s inclination to restore older homes to their original splendor rather than undergoing complete interior transformations. However, the duo acknowledged that the pressure of completing a renovation within the confines of time and budget was significantly heightened by the fact that they were undertaking the project for a television show potentially reaching millions of viewers. Additionally, she commented on the added stress, noting that, it can be challenging.

“This is because you’re not just dealing with typical construction issues but also the camera waiting to film. This was especially true considering that neither she nor Thomasula had extensive prior experience in front of the camera. Despite the occasional challenges, Leitheuser reflected on the journey, saying, “Getting there was sometimes a grind, but ultimately, we consistently delivered a high-quality product to our clients.”
