Evan Closky is an American anchor and reporter working for 10 Tampa Bay as a sports director. He joined the 10 Tampa Bay news team in April 2021, after previously working for WBNS-TV.
Closky received his Bachelor of Arts and Science in Journalism from The Ohio State University. For Closky, the 2002 National Championship game was one of the biggest sporting events ever. Having completed a year-long internship at Columbus’ TEGNA station WBNS-TV, he packed up his journalism degree and spent two years in Fargo, North Dakota. During Carson Wentz’s time at North Dakota State, he was the backup quarterback. Closky fell in love with the outdoors after a few years when he relocated to Spokane, Washington, to work for KREM-TV. His best memories of working in this industry are still of accompanying Gonzaga to the 2017 National Championship game.
During his time at Washington State, Closky covered the legendary Mike Leach as well, and his news briefings were consistently enjoyable. He relocated to San Antonio to work for KENS-TV after four years in Spokane in search of better weather. In April 2021, Closky relocated to the Bay Area, where he promptly covered the NHL playoffs during which the Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup for the second time in a row. Closky discovered that managing such prosperous teams can be quite demanding, especially when they include Tom Brady and a Rays divisional title. He may be seen by viewers and fans at Bern’s dessert room, Sparkman Wharf, St. Pete Pier, or Armature Works. During his travels and writing, he has won a Murrow and EMMY.
