Byron York Biography

Byron York is an American chief political correspondent, author and columnist working for FOX NEWS as a contributor. He joined the FOX NEWS news team after previously working for National Review.

Byron York Career

York earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa and a Master of Arts (M.A.) from the University of Chicago. He assumed the role of chief political correspondent at The Washington Examiner in 2009, following his tenure as a White House correspondent for National Review. Additionally, he is recognized as a syndicated columnist. Before his association with National Review, he served as a news producer at CNN Headline News and worked as an investigative reporter for The American Spectator. His extensive portfolio includes contributions to publications such as The Atlantic, The Hill, The Wall Street Journal, The Weekly Standard, and the New York Post.

Furthermore, he has made appearances on prominent programs like Meet the Press, The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, The O’Reilly Factor, Special Report, The Laura Ingraham Show, and Hardball with Chris Matthews. He has also provided occasional commentaries for National Public Radio. In 2005, he briefly contributed as a blogger at The Huffington Post, and he has engaged in discussions with other media personalities on BloggingHeads.tv. In 2001, he criticized President Bill Clinton’s decision to pardon Susan McDougal, who had served three months in prison for Contempt of court related to her involvement in the Whitewater scandal. Later in 2005, he presented the idea of a Democratic Party plot to undermine President George W. Bush in his book “The Vast Left Wing Conspiracy.”

In 2007, he called for President Bush to grant a full pardon to Scooter Libby, who had been sentenced to prison for obstruction of justice, perjury, and making false statements in the Plame affair. He authored an op-ed titled “Obama has himself to blame for Muslim problem.” Which argued that President Obama was responsible for the widespread misconception that he was Muslim in 2011. He pointed out Obama’s writings about his Muslim grandfather and his extended family’s Muslim background. It also suggested that the Obama campaign suppressed discussion on the topic, contributing to public confusion about Obama’s faith. He has been noted for leading inquiries into the alleged deep-state conspiracy against Trump, according to the Toronto Star.

Slate reported that he has propagated conspiracy theories about the FBI. This includes concerns about Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s impartiality due to his alleged friendship with former FBI Director James Comey, whom President Trump fired. York also supported criminal charges against Christopher Steele, an individual involved in exposing Russian interference in the 2016 election. In July 2018, when accused Russian spy Maria Butina was arrested, he downplayed the charges. In February 2019, he argued that the House Democrats’ attempt to obtain President Trump’s tax returns amounted to the “ultimate fishing expedition.” During the George Floyd protests in 2020, he criticized former President George W. Bush for seemingly ignoring riots and violence in his statement addressing racism and police brutality.

Before the 2020 presidential election, he wrote an article analyzing a simulation’s findings that claimed Joe Biden wouldn’t concede if he lost. In reality, Trump refused to concede, pressured Republican governors to reject results, and Republican officials, including in the House of Representatives, refused to acknowledge Biden’s victory. Additionally, he is skilled in playing both the guitar and the mandolin.
