Charles Hurt is an American Opinion Editor, columnist and political commentator working for FOX NEWS as a political contributor, part of the “All-Star Panel” on the network’s newscast Special Report on weeknights at 6 PM/ET. He joined the FOX NEWS news team in 2016, after previously working for The Detroit News.
Hurt embarked on his newspaper career in Chatham, Virginia, as a young boy, where he wrote and published the “Gilmer Gazette,” named after the street of his residence. While attending Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, he gained experience at various newspapers including the Danville Register & Bee, the Richmond Times-Dispatch, and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. After graduating in 1995, he secured his first full-time position at The Detroit News. Here, he became a replacement worker during a contentious strike. His tenure at The Detroit News lasted until 2001 when he relocated to the Washington, D.C. area to join The Charlotte Observer. Subsequently, he served as The New York Post’s D.C. Bureau Chief and news columnist, focusing on White House coverage for five years.
Between 2003 and 2007, he reported on the U.S. Congress as a journalist for The Washington Times before returning to The New York Post. In 2011, he rejoined The Washington Times, this time as a political columnist. In December 2016, he assumed the role of opinion editor at The Washington Times. Recognized as an early supporter of Donald Trump’s populism by National Review editor Rich Lowry, he has authored numerous opinion pieces praising Trump since the 2016 election.
